Executive Member - Areas of responsibility: Children’s Services
Biographical details
Having spent thirty years as a peripatetic music teacher in the counties of Nottingham and North Yorkshire, I left the employment of North Yorkshire County Council after 22 years' service to stand for Election in 2011.
I served two years on the Young People's Overview and Scrutiny Committee, before becoming Young Peoples Champion and Chairman of our corporate parenting board; a position which first introduced me to Carlton Lodge and North Yorkshire Youth. In 2015 I was appointed to the Executive Committee of North Yorkshire County Council and given the role of Lead Member for Children's Services.
My work as a music teacher involved me in many extra curricula activities with both local and county youth groups, giving me an in depth understanding of how voluntary groups function and relate to the school community.
I live in Thornton le Dale with my husband Martin and two Cocker Spaniel dogs where we enjoy walking and gardening. Thought I no longer teach, I still direct a small community choir "Sing & Tonic" and support the North Yorkshire Music Services as a board member.
